BETPAWA RECEIVES BETTING PERMIT

The Director General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Mr. Lanre Gbajabiamila has emphasized the need for compliance in the Sports Betting Industry as well as better cooperation between the Commission and her licensed Gaming operators.

Mr Lanre Gbajabiamila made this remark at the presentation of a Sports Betting Permit to the Management team of Calgary Online Limited, owners of Betpawa. The presentation which took place at the NLRC headquarters Abuja, had other management of NLRC in attendance.

The Director General commended Betpawa for going through the process of obtaining a Betting Permit in Nigeria and stated that going through the process was of benefit to the Licensee and not just to the Commission. He encouraged Betpawa to be well guided and uphold all the rules and regulations of the lottery industry in Nigeria and assured them that the Commission would support their business wherever and whenever necessary.

Mr Gbajabiamila further stated that the Commission has an open line of communication which could be utilized whenever any Licensee encounters any challenges.

The DG said the lottery industry was a competitive market and advised Betpawa to call the attention of the Commission whenever it observes activities of any illegal operator, to enable the enforcement team of the Commission take charge of the situation.

In response, Mr Segun Somefun the CEO of Betpawa thanked the DG and Management team for finding them worthy of obtaining a National Lottery Permit, he said that they consider is a huge privilege to have obtained this Permit and would not take it for granted. He stated how impressed he was with the level of professionalism he observed while working with the Commission so far, the due diligence and preparedness during the inspection of their premises was really impressive. The CEO assured the Commission that they would be up to date in their remittances to the Commission.
