Ghana NLA to Participate in Launch of Nigeria National Game
- Celebrates 60th Anniversary December
- Terminates Agreement with Western Lotto
The National Lottery Authority of Ghana has confirmed participation in the forthcoming launch of the Nigeria National Game slated for July 18, 2022, in Abuja.
The Director-General of the Authority dropped this hint recently while playing host to a delegation from the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, led by its Director-General, Mr. Lanre Gbajabiamila during a 2-day working visit to Ghana. The trip, according to the DG NLRC, was to familiarize the NLRC Management with the workings and operations of the National Lottery Authority of Ghana with a view to understanding the peculiarities of the very popular Ghana Game and to draw from their experience.
At a reception in honour of the Nigeria delegation, the DG, Ghana National Lottery Authority, Mr. Samuel Awuku pledged the support of the Authority to ensure the success of the Nigeria National Game. He advised the NLRC to undertake elaborate publicity of the launch to ensure wide participation. “We are happy to have you as brothers and friends, we want you to succeed, and we will support you to succeed” Mr. Awuku affirmed.
Speaking further, Mr. Awuku stated that the relationship with the Nigerian-based Western Lotto Limited had been terminated, adding that the Authority did not benefit anything from the relationship, hence it became necessary to end it.
“The marriage with Western Lotto ended in March 2022. Nothing was flowing through the pipe. From the record, the Authority didn’t benefit anything and we decided to abrogate the relationship. We prefer to engage through the front door and regulate what is happening in Nigeria in a mutually beneficial manner to both countries. With proper synergy with the NLRC everything will be alright” he stated.
Mr. Awuku, again called on Nigeria to join the Association of African Lottery Authority which according to him is currently dominated by Francophone countries. He said Nigeria Ghana and Sierra- Leone ought to drive the interest of the Anglophone African countries in the group.
He invited Nigeria to the 60th anniversary of the Ghana NLA slated for December 2022 and appealed to the DG NLRC to approve participation of the Commission.
Furthermore, Mr. Awuku advised Nigeria to seize the opportunity afforded by the planned African Lottery Conference to be hosted in Ghana this year to join the Association of African Lottery Authority. According to him, the conference would centre on issues around Responsible Gaming and the need to curb addiction in the Lottery and Gaming industry. He stressed the need for Nigeria and Ghana to exit the bottom level of the Gaming addiction index to better ratings for responsible Gaming.
In his response, the DG NLRC, Mr. Lanre Gbajabiamila expressed deep gratitude to the DG Ghana NLA and his team for their warm reception, pledging to reciprocate the gesture when the Ghanaian team comes to Nigeria. “I am extremely overwhelmed by your hospitality. I must say my expectations were surpassed. I am truly happy and highly appreciative of your reception. My team and I will not forget this visit in a hurry. I thank you most sincerely. We shall reciprocate this gesture when you come to Nigeria” the DG promised.
The DG had earlier extended an invitation to the DG NLA of Ghana for the launch of the Nigeria National Game by Elrae Technologies Limited and told his Ghanaian counterpart that the Nigeria National Game would adopt 6/49 instead of the usual 5/90 which has remained popular with the Ghana Game.
