NLRC, NDPC Strengthen Collaboration With MoU Signing
In a bid to strengthen the existing partnership between both agencies, the recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
During the signing ceremony at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja, Mr. Lanre Gbajabiamila (OON), Director General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “This is a welcome development which has brought light to the Commission and will be beneficial to both agencies.”
Gbajabiamila emphasized the importance of capturing accurate data of individuals engaging with the Commission and noted the positive feedback received from international operators regarding the collaboration.
Acknowledging the CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission for initiating the Know Your Customer (KYC) concept, Mr. Gbajabiamila underscored its integration into licensing requirements and its extension to technical providers.
He stressed the value added by the collaboration in promoting
data governance and advancing data subject rights, particularly within the gaming sector, whilst expressing interest in jointly conducting awareness campaigns on data governance.
In his response, Mr. Vincent Olatunji, CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, commended the NLRC’s swift implementation of the KYC initiative and thanked Gbajabiamila for his support, stating, “The NLRC’s support has contributed to the success of our Commission.”
Olatunji emphasized the critical role of data protection and the commitment to safeguarding Nigerians’ data shared regularly.
Gbajabiamila, who was recently honoured by the NDPC with a Special Recognition Award for his support to the NDPC, concluded by thanking Mr. Vincent Olatunji and his team for their visit and reiterated the NLRC’s dedication to continued collaboration to ensure reliable data management and enhance transparency in their operations.
